A true giraffe-morph sauropod from the Late Jurassic of China. I will be most interested to see what the vertebral column of its sister species, M. hochuanesis, looks like now...

I thought M had a cockscomb-like club ala Shunosaurus?

Take another look, it does have a club on the end there. It's proportionately smaller than in Shunosaurus, and of course the club is from a different species of Mamenchisaurus, but I've assumed it was present here as well.

nice drawing. I read in a book that Mamenchisaurus' cousin, Omeisaurus, may have had a club (based on clubs found in the same area with different shapes than Shunosaurus). I have seen the Mamenchisaurus skeleton at the museum in LA, but I never thought it may have had a club.

You're right, sorry.

A lot of people have doubted that Mamenchisaurus had a tail club (including me), but current authors (including Pi et al, who described M. youngi) maintain that there is a specimen with one, so I have chosen to take the conservative route and include one. Feel free to ignore it if you do a life reconstruction...it won't hurt my feelings any!
:iconmegalania1859:
well, it may or may not have had one. Remember those clubs i mentioned? They could be Mamenchisaurus's. We don't know. Only time will tell.

I now realize this was a very strange dinosaur.
:iconshartman:
I'm starting to wonder if it's actually strange, or if our understanding of camarasaurs, brachiosaurs, etc hasn't just been really off. Time will tell...

¿Tenía un mazo/bola en su cola? :?

It had a mallet/ball in its tail? :?
